Not necessarily. I'm with cosy and a few others on here. Either a gameplay element is in a game or it is not. A Beta isn't going to change that fact. I too will play the Beta, if I have time, but at this point, I don't see it changing my mind in any respect. Enough has been released and seen about GW2 to make the Beta of little value to me. For all intents and purposes, everything that is in GW2 I can get from a myriad of other games already released and on the horizon. Nothing about the game compels me to play it other than desiring to attend the festivals for whatever version of hats they may have.

Please don't lump me in that category, junior. I have done everything I wanted to do in GW1, and still play it as regularly as I can because I enjoy the game as a whole. I still play the Wizardry games in between rounds of GW1, via the Archives released many years ago. And in fact, when I am really feeling the mood, I fire up my IBM PC XT or Apple II and load up one of the original 5.25" floppies for a night of hardcore fun. So no, it is never time to move on from a game that you really enjoy. At this point, I can only hope that Anet converts GW1 to a single-player game, or allow us to host our own servers as I would very much like to still be playing the game 20 years from now as I do with Wizardry. There are very few games that can make me say that.

I will always play some GW as long as they keep the servers running, when the mood hits me. As for GW 2, I'm not yet sold on the whole persistence thing. I have a feeling I won't like it and have never played WoW or another game that uses that. I like GW in that you can go out the gate and leave everybody else behind. I will try it tho and may even sign up for the beta and hell, maybe I'll like it. Only time will tell I guess.

I'm not entirely sold on what I've seen from GW2 so far but I'll have to actually try it to see if it will be the game that consumes the next 5 years of my life. I totally agree with the previously mentioned UI and color auras. The videos seem so much better than gameplay.

I think it will depend on what some of my friends and guildmates do because that's why I'm still playing GW1. We all talk about moving there when it is released but nobody has demo'd it yet.

I'm more than happy to put GW1 behind me when GW2 comes out. If I don't like GW2 (which is highly unlikely, I have enjoyed everything ANet has said and given to us) then i'll just play something else. Guild Wars is really old, I only play for my guildies and to talk to people.

@ the OP: I'll probably stick with GW2 for the most part, but I'm sure that I will not leave GW1 entirely. I enjoy going back and playing through older games, when I haven't played them in awhile. For example, before getting skyrim, I did a quick playthrough in Morrowind and then Oblivion. GW1 is a fun game, and I'm sure that one day, I'll want to start a new character and play through it all again.

GW2 seems to improve upon the original in almost every way, directly or indirectly, and I really can't wait for it.

The professions seem funnier and more diverse, the playstyle seems more active and less "watch your heroes do everything while you position them", and the new mechanics (or the removal of old ones) seem to take skill balance in check so it doesn't get screwed up like GW1's balance has gotten over the years.

GW has given me some 3,000 hours of entertainment over the last 6 years. However, when DIII comes out, I'm done with GW. I'm sure down the road some years from now I'll give GW2 a go, but there are many things that don't particularly appeal to me about the game.

I like my items crazy overpowered ala Diablo. When you've run through the PvE game in it's entirety, over an over, what else is there to do but pursue the rarest and most powerful items in the game? Which is where me and GW had some disagreement. I never liked the stale, generic weapon/armor stat lines. So BLAH that there was no difference (functionality) between a 5k merch weapon and a 1 million gold "elite" weapon.

If I hear enough good things about GW2, I will hop in and try it out. But me thinks DIII is dropping before GW2, and I'm not the type to obsess over more than 1 game at once.

As for GW1? I'll do what I did when I retired from DII. I'll stand in town and act like I'm new and need help. The first person to offer help gets my riches. I gave an extraordinary amount of untold riches to a fella that went out of his way to help someone he thought was a noob. The fella was like "OMG OMG OMG" as I handed over 2 accounts packed with items many players could only dream of.
